COVID-19 Update

May 16, 2020

From the Moderator

“Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” (Isaiah 35:3-4)

Having a positive heart attitude and being able to see problems from a different perspective are the keys to be a strong Christian. By having a positive heart, we will avoid worry, fear, disappointment, anxiety, hopelessness and so

COVID-19 Update

May 9, 2020

From The Moderator

“When the Counsellor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify, about me.” John 15:26

The events that have taken place in this world have actually been preached and foretold. Whether it is events caused by natural occurrences or because of human behaviour. The pandemic’s effect on the economy, politics, our social life, and our struggles are similar to the churches struggle.

Remembering Edwin (Ted) Percival Milliken AM

May 6, 2020

Edwin Percival Milliken AM – 18 June 1918 to 26 April 2020

Edwin the boy began life on the family pastoral property. And in his words “my arrival heralded the end of World War 1’.  So I’ll let him tell his story himself:-

“I was five when we moved from the pastoral property two hundred miles west of Rockhampton to a small farm on the outskirts of Brisbane.  About half a mile down the road to Brisbane was a strange creek, strange

COVID-19 Update

May 5, 2020

FROM THE MODERATOR

“I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

Psalm 121 is the “Song of Pilgrimage”. One of the Psalms used by pilgrims on a journey to climb Mount Zion during large parties in the Temple. To this day, this Psalm is also used to mark the start of a journey. Over the last few months all our attention

COVID-19 Update

April 25, 2020

FROM THE MODERATOR

Two weeks ago, we celebrated Easter, but it seemed a long time ago, because all our attention is focused on the problems we face today with COVID-19. All of us continue to feel hopelessly anxious, especially since the government is still suggesting keeping our distance and the lockdown has not changed.

The two followers returning to Emmaus at first missed the significance of history’s greatest event because they were too focused on their disappointments and problems. In fact, they

COVID-19 Update

April 17, 2020

From the Moderator,

“Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” John 20:19b

There is a sense of fear felt by the disciples after Jesus, the Teacher, left them. That fear makes them experience instability. They must gather secretly. But in the midst of that fear, Jesus came to show Himself as the resurrected Son of God saying, “Peace be with you.” The news of the resurrection has changed the fear of the disciples giving them a sense

COVID-19 Update/Easter Reflection

April 9, 2020

FROM THE MODERATOR

In recent years a lot of our activities have been carried out in order to welcome Good Friday and Easter. Whether inside or outside the church building even combining with several churches in formal ceremony. We practice rituals such as walking the cross, or the washing of feet just as Jesus had done to his disciples. It seems as though we want to take the mandate given to Jesus, and imprison God within the limits of our own

Good Friday Resource

April 8, 2020

The poet Kahlil Ghibran, best known for his book The Prophet, was a devout Lebanese Christian. He wrote several books and poems about Jesus, and saw in him a kindred prophetic voice despised by most yet speaking truth from God.

Ghibran’s meditation ‘The Crucified’ is a very powerful re framing of the death of Jesus, not as weakness under siege, but as bold courageous love defeating death.

Read it silently or aloud at 2 pm
Good Friday or another time.
