The Presbytery of The Downs, in partnership with Frontier Services, is seeking a person to minister to remote rural and isolated communities in the Cunnamulla Burke and Wills area in south west Queensland.
If you have a passion for ministry with people in the Outback, you will have many opportunities to serve people in the small communities and large properties that are a part of this remote area – Bedourie, Birdsville, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Quilpie, Wyandra and the like.
Together we will discern
The 15th Assembly of the Uniting Church in Australia has agreed to hold two equal and distinct views on marriage to honour the diversity of Christian belief among its members.
Meeting for the first time since last year’s change to Australian marriage laws, members of the Church’s national decision-making body resolved to allow its ministers the freedom to conduct or refuse to conduct same-gender marriages.
Uniting Church Recognises first people’s sovereignty
The Uniting Church has affirmed that the First Peoples of Australia, the
Rev. Sharon Hollis will be the first ordained woman to lead the Uniting Church after being named as President-elect at the 15th Assembly.
Rev. Hollis, who is Moderator of the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania, will be the third woman to occupy the President’s role.
I am humbled and I am grateful,” Rev. Hollis said after the announcement was met with a standing ovation in the Box Hill Town Hall.

Assembly members were invited to symbolically reflect on the
Uniting Church in Western Australia is currently advertising for the position of Presbytery Minister – Uniting Generations (Lay and ordained people may apply). Applications has been extended to Tuesday 31 July 2018.

Presbytery Minister – Uniting Generations
This year’s Synod meeting will be held at St Philip’s College in Alice Springs.
The Synod opening service will be held on the evening of Friday 5 October. Synod business will be conducted on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October, finishing at 5pm on Sunday.
This year there are some other meetings and professional development activities occurring before and after the Synod meeting.
Participants attending the Synod meeting will also need to:
1. complete the registration form (to be available soon) so the Synod office
At the Northern Synod meeting in July 2017 the leadership of the General Secretary Mr Peter Jones was strongly endorsed.
It was agreed to extend the placement of our General Secretary for one year to the end of 2018, and to ask the Synod Standing Committee to commence the task of recruiting a new General Secretary.
We continue to pray for and to appreciate the many gifts and skills Peter has exercised over the last 10 years in his role as General

Vale Rev Jovilisi Ragata
With sadness the Northern Synod notes the passing of Rev Jovilisi Ragata.
The funeral for Jovilisi will be held on 2 June in Brisbane, some NRCC
members from Galiwinku will be attending to pass onto Jovilisi’s family our
condolences.
Jovilisi Ragata came to Australia in 1970. He came from the Methodist
Church in Fiji with a Certificate in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.
He began work as an agriculturalist at Milingimbi 1970 and was there until he
moved to Goulburn Island June 1974
The PPNA Continuing Education Fund provides grants to lay members of the PPNA to cover course fees and travel expenses. Applicants can apply for up to $700 over a two year period.
