Somerville Community Services Inc is an agency of the Uniting Church in Australia, Northern Synod. We are a non-government, not-for-profit, youth, family and community welfare organisation indigenous to the Northern Territory.

Family Services

The Family Services is the community welfare arm of Somerville. There is to assist people to participate in society at a level to which they aspire and are capable of achieving. Family Services staff work with people of all ages – children, adolescents and adults, and can work with families, couples or individuals. We assist anyone who is experiencing a crisis or problem in their life. They also provide counselling and psychotherapy, practical, emotional and educative support, financial counselling and short to medium term supported accommodation. This service offers advocacy, liaison and referral to other agencies and professionals. While the services that are offered vary greatly, they each have a common theme – that is to empower people to exert control over their own lives.

Disability Services

Disability Services manages nine houses (located in Darwin, Howard Springs and Katherine) providing supported accommodation for people with developmental disabilities and high support needs. Each house accommodates up to six people ranging between 10 to 58 years of age. Staff are present 24 hours a day to provide clients with adequate support. The Disability Services programme operates under the principles of Social Role Valorisation. These principles promote the importance of dignity and respect. Clients are encouraged to develop skills in the house where they live as well as being active members in the community. This is achieved by participating in age appropriate activities, freedom of choice with associated responsibilities and involvement in social and physical integration within the community.
