The Uniting Church affirms that all people are made in the image of God. The Uniting Church commits itself to the care, protection and safety of all people with whom it comes in contact.
As a Christian community, we believe that God reaches out to us in love and acceptance and that our relationships with each other should express love and respect. We are committed to providing a safe environment for people to encounter God, to develop relationships as part of a community and to grow in faith. We are particularly mindful of those who may be more vulnerable in our communities, but we also seek to ensure all people are able to flourish.
Developing a Culture of Safety is not just about compliance, although there are many legal obligations to consider, it is primarily an outworking of our desire to provide safe environments for all people to explore and express their faith in the Good News of Jesus Christ.
The Safe Church Policy supports the Northern Synod’s commitment to create safe places for all people, including children and anyone who is vulnerable. It provides the overarching policy to describe how we will practice Safe Ministry, and it applies to all paid workers and volunteers in congregations, faith communities, and presbyteries.

The Statement of Personal Commitment sets out the behaviour that is acceptable and not acceptable. It includes child protection issues as well as other conduct issues.
Lay Leaders Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct for Lay Leaders outlines the behaviours expected of persons who participate in the life of the Uniting Church in Australia as leaders.
Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination Policy
The Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination Policy encourages the establishment and maintenance of a respectful workplace culture across the Northern Synod includes reference to the Anti-Discrimination Amendment Act 2022 (NT).
