A pastoral note on the death of Rev Ron Brandt

News was received last Friday of the death of Rev Ron Brandt at his home in Fannie Bay on Tuesday 8th January. Ron was 84. A memorial service will be held at the Nightcliff Uniting Church on Wednesday 23rd January from 10.30am. Morning tea will follow.
Ron came into the Northern Synod in 1979 to minister with the Nightcliff Congregation after 17 years in pioneering placements as Presbyterian then Uniting minister in WA and Victoria. From 1984 he moved into the role of Minister in Community working with various community organisations including the Stella Maris Ministry to Seafarers. From 1990, he was Chaplain and Minister in Community with Somerville Community Services. He retired in 2005. His wife Jo, a preschool teacher, died in January 2015. Ron and Jo were members of the Nightcliff congregation throughout their time in Darwin. Their son Karl lives in Darwin.
Ron chaired the Synod Board of Church and Community from 1987 to 1991 when he became Moderator elect. He served as Moderator of the Northern Synod from 1992 to 1994.
Although a Minister of the Word, Ron’s passion was for Diaconal ministry, Minister in Community, as he called it. As such, he has made a significant contribution to the life of the church and the community in the North. We thank God for Ron, his compassion and service in the love of Christ.
Please support in prayer, son Karl and Ron’s extended family and many friends at this time.

Rev Steve Orme
Ex Moderator of Northern Synod
